Robert Francis is a prolific songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and writer. He has released several acclaimed albums, including Before Nightfall which earned him an RIAA Certified Gold Album in France. Entertainment Weekly called his debut “so perfect I’ve listened to this record over 10 times in the last two days." Black Book called his music “hauntingly beautiful” and NPR described him as a “young man with an old soul."
His mother is from the rancho of San Dieguito De Abajo, Mexico. His father was born in Van Nuys and founded the classical record label Genesis Records. This eclectic background allowed Francis a unique perspective on the American pastoral. His wind-swept guitar and “lonesome whistle blow” production carries the torch from Jack Nietzsche to Link Wray.
Recently he has produced works by Brooks Nielsen (The Growlers), Sierra Ferrell, Ramy Youssef and the celebrated animated series "Frog & Toad" on Apple TV+. As a session musician he can be heard on the Happy Monday's Uncle Dysfunktional, Ry Cooder's “Prodigal Son”, Scarlett Johansson and Pete Yorn's “Breakup” and Father John Misty's “One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong" among others.
Francis lives with his wife, two sons and three dogs on a small ranch in Shadow Hills, California where he operates a recording studio from his barn. Currently reading: Larry Brown, Cormac McCarthy, Denis Johnson and listening to Ray Price.
